Please can anyone advise me on a good gynae in the Cape Town Area?

Hi

I'm with Dr Elmari Basson at Chris Barnard Memorial Hospital and really love her.

My SIL is with Dr Salma Isaacs at the same hospital and is totally crazy about her.

Hope you find find a gynae that you are comfortable with soon.

It depends on what you are looking for in a gynae?
Do you want someone personable, someone more technical, someone that has a high cs rate? It all depends on what your needs are.
The hospital that has the lowest cs rates in Ct are at Vincent Pallotti and generally those are the gynae's that will back midwives, practise physiological third stage & so on. I would recommend the follwing gynae's in this order;
Dr Nomathamsanqa Matabese (aka Dr TAM TAM)
Douglas Dumbrill, Jackie Searle & Peter Roos.

Exactly what Spiral said, depends on the type of birth you are hoping for..

Hi Ladies...

Thank you for the advice. I am preferrably not wanting to go the cs route, someone who will be friendly and helpful, and not a drill sergeant type, lol.

I have heard good things of Dr. Dumbrill on many forums, maybe will try for an appt.
Has anyone been to him?

Hi,

I'm not with him, but he spoke to us at our antenatal class and I really liked him (so did hubby, which is also important I believe). And from that interaction alone, I wouldn't hesitate if I was you.

Good luck!

I can recommend Jackie Searle at Vincent Pallotti (she's my backup gynae, Ive hired a private midwife).
She was so gentle and understanding through my miscarriage earlier in the year.
and in this pregnancy has really gone out of her way to accommodate extra scans owing to my general paranoia!
