mmm...sorry ladies, not the best topic for early morning...
I have noticed the last few days once my LO wakes up she has bad breath. I must say, I am quite shocked because I am used to the sweet smells of baby breath...
She only has 2 bottom teeth. We don't brush that regularly, maybe once in 2 days, is that why she has bad breath or could it be sign of something like thrush?

Hi

It isn't normal. Often if we get a cold we tend to have breath that smells a bit off.

Consider taking lo to the dentist. I need to take Dylan too.

My lo gets bad breathe at times when I have give her milk that is a bit too hot or I've warmed the food a little bit to much for her without noticing. Then the following morning her breathe will be a bit stinky.

My son had something stuck up his nose a few years ago, he must have been about 2 1/2 - I did not know there was something up his nose.

But the result is that he smelt like a dead rat, and I just could not figure out where the problem was - he brushed, he washed, he rewashed, but this smell permuated all over him.

I am not sure why I ended up at the ENT (probably because I was practically living there at the time) but I walked in, doctor looked up Connor's nose - and said "there is something up his nose.."

They managed to pull it out - it looked a bit like a smartie, with about a ton of snot on it, the smell when it came out was enough to make you run screaming ... but as soon as it was out, the smell immediately went away.

Just thought I would share the story of the missing smartie ....

oh my, wow, what a story. Reluctant mom, you never fail to make my day, thanks!!!

No, I never give her warm milk.

Maybe I should have mentioned, I have noticed it 4 times, so, it's not a constant thing.

But I will watch her carefully, since I understand bad breath at this age is not normal?

thanks ladies.

Both my boys have rather horrid morning breath, but it is cos they both lie on their backs with their mouths open - not sure how this works, but that was the doc explantaion when I rushed them of to him thinking they has tonsilitis.

Also spoke to the dentist about it when I took Brandon for his first check up and as he had beautiful teeth and no problems with the tonsils, she also said it was probably cos they sleep with their mouths open and breath thru the mouth, rather than the nose.

I'm sure that I have read somewhere that if you are a bit constipated you can have bad breath.

Or am I talking complete cr@p?

Excess stomach acid can also give you bad breath. Did she maybe have citrus fruits/juice or tomatoes the day before? Can't remember how old she is, so not sure if this applies...

It is definitely possible. Try this - don't give her any for a couple of days and then try it again and check her breath in the morning.

Hope you find the cause (and a solution) soon. :)
